The XIII Latin American Conference of Maritime Insurance organized by the Latin American Maritime Underwitters Association – Alsum will take place from October 21st to 23rd in Cartagena, Colombia at the Estelar Hotel and Convention Center.
This is the most important annual gathering of the Latin American maritime insurance market, bringing together key players in cargo, hull, and maritime liability insurance in the region.
This year, the association will continue to strengthen the regional conference bringing together insurers (reinsurers), brokers, risk managers, adjusters, maritime lawyers, and cargo and hull insurers from Latin America, around academic, networking, and social activities.
The previous conferences have been an undeniable success, with last year’s event in Santiago de Chile as one of the most important gatherings in the sector. It featured 19 conferences with 65 speakers and experts. This event attracted a total of 365 in-person attendees and 295 virtual attendees from different countries. Feedback from participants highlights the excellent reception of workshops. Meanwhile, the practical cases provided unique opportunities for delegates to delve into crucial industry topics such as coverages and clauses, risk management and appetite, as well as claims and legal issues.
Therefore, the academic agenda for the 2025 Conference will feature strategic and technical panels, as well as a particular focus on workshops. ALSUM’s Technical Committees are preparing workshops on cargo, hull, and maritime liabilities, covering topics that response to the actual market outlook.
Venue
Located on the Caribbean coast and recognized as a Colombian historical heritage, Cartagena is known as the “Ciudad Amurallada”, the “Ciudad Herócca” and “La fantástica”. In hers streets resounds the cumbia music to the sound of drums and bagpipes, reflecting its historical and cultural richness. In addition, this city has one of the most efficient ports in the Americas, where more than five million containers are moved each year and which has been awarded the Ibero-American Blue Economy Award for excellence in maritime transport and logistics.
