FIDES Rio 2023: Former president of Inter-American Development Bank confirms presence

Luis A. Moreno joins team of international speakers who will take part in Latin America’s biggest insurance event 

Luis Alberto Moreno, a former president of the Inter-American Development Bank, is the first internationally renowned speaker to have confirmed his participation in the 38th Western Hemisphere Insurance Conference, which will bring together representatives of the private insurance sector from 20 Latin American countries as well as the United States and Spain in Rio de Janeiro from September 24 to 26, 2023. 

Moreno is internationally known for his leadership as president of the Inter-American Development Bank for 12 years (between 2005 and 2020), leading an agenda to modernize the institution with a focus on investments in infrastructure, urbanization and development in Latin American countries. 

He is a prominent expert in the areas of finance for development, public policies, and social, economic and institutional development. He has extensive experience advocating for gender and diversity goals and he had led numerous initiatives to benefit the global community in areas such as renewable energy, environmental protection, access to health care, climate resilience and adaptation, sustainable cities, connectivity and digital innovation. 

Moreno previously served as Colombia’s ambassador to the United States, strengthening relations between the two countries and supporting the creation of bilateral assistance programs. 

The diplomat has received numerous awards and distinctions for his leadership in Latin America, such as the Atlantic Council Leadership Award, Woodrow Wilson Award and Inter-American Dialogue Award. 

He is currently a board member of the World Economic Forum and International Olympic Committee, among other organizations. He is also a board member of Dow Chemical, Nubank and FEMSA.
