What to expect?
We work very hard, but we enjoy what we do. Knowing that we are making a difference to the lives of people that really need it gets each of us out of bed in the morning. MiCRO launched its first ever product in Haiti in 2011. Although we hope to expand globally in the future, we are currently focused on the work at hand in Latin America.
Our current countries of operations are Guatemala, El Salvador and Colombia, we will soon start in Mexico and others will follow suit. Our team works mostly virtually, and in continual conversation over Zoom, phone, and email. We try to meet in person occasionally. We do not expect you to relocate, but for ease of time zones and travel, we have a very strong preference to hire somebody based in Latin America.
Our dream candidate would be based in Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, or El Salvador, where you could work even closer with one of our existing team members.

What are we looking for?
If you want to succeed in this role, you need to be intellectually curious and ready to take initiative.
We have many problems that we are trying to solve and tasks that we are trying to implement. You should be ready to take the lead on some of these.
Here is some more specific information about this opportunity: To operate the innovative products designed by MiCRO, we developed a calculation platform (MiCAPP: MiCRO Calculation App), which extracts remote earth observation data generated by agencies such as NASA, NOAA, USGS and 2 local instances, it matches the data against parameters in the insurance policy and determines the occurrence of triggering events for covered perils, such as drought, excess rain and/or earthquake.
To support MiCRO’s expansion, we need to strengthen our IT capabilities and bring MiCAPP to the next level, a level in which MiCAPP will offer reliable processing of data for hundreds of thousands of policies and locations monitored, instead of the current tens of thousands. That is the main reason for our interest to hire the services of a Senior IT Specialist, who will work closely with our IT Leader managing and improving MiCAPP.
Some specific duties are:
- Improve and further develop MiCAPP’s processes in terms of architecture, coding, security and workflow.
- Plan for short-, mid-, and long-term improvements to the architecture, coding scalability and process workflow of the platform.
- Ensure MiCAPP’s 24/7 security and auditability.
- Prepare MiCAPP for international certifications.
- Provide MiCAPP training to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead operation (support and maintenance) of MiCAPP.
- Contribute to enhancements of MiCAPP’s current capabilities.
Successful responses to this ToR will exhibit the following qualities and competencies:
- At least 4 years of proven experience supported by portfolio of implemented projects.
- Experience in IT development for the insurance, banking, or telecom sectors as a senior architect.
- Experience in IT certifications and compliance with IT security standards.
- Senior developer in PHP and strong knowledge in C++, Javascript, Laravel frameworks and SQL databases.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is a must.
- Mobile development and blockchain implementation will be a plus.
